Department of Radiation Oncology
The Department of Radiation at Anadolu Medical Center (www.anadolusaglik.org) is one of the main branches of the Center of Oncological Sciences established to meet all requirements of every cancer patient within the same institute. Our department renders service by a multidisciplinary treatment approach consisting of relevant surgical therapy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.
The Department of Radiation Oncology provides services through a staff of specialists with required knowledge and experience capable of using and monitoring sophisticated technology in international standards. Our Radiation Oncology team consists of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiotherapy technicians, simulator technicians, matrix technicians, nurses, dosimetrists, psychologists, social service specialists, dieticians, radiation safety guards and administrative personnel.
The Department of Radiation Oncology has two linear accelerators with the capability of IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy), CyberKnife and PET-CT simulator.
In ONCOR Linear Accelerators, new 82-leafed multileaf collimator (MLC) is used. Thus, relatively complex radiation plans can be easily performed on patients. The images taken from high resolution flat screen amorphous silicone detectors are evaluated. Thanks to these features, the applications of IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) which predominates in recent years can be accurately and safely performed.
In our department, a radiotherapy planning is realized by means of PET-CT simulator which was only introduced as a radiotherapy planning equipment in our country in Anadolu Medical Center. The images obtained from PET-CT simulator are simultaneously transferred on-line to digital media eliminating the need for image development and processing. In external beam radiothreapy, 3-D treatment system planning (TPS) is used and for each patient CT images are taken. Also, for CyberKnife plannings, another TPS are used.
In ASM Clinics, PTW products (UNIDOS, MULTIDOS, UNIDOS E, set of ion chambers, in-vivo dosimetry, MP3, 2D-Array seven29, absolute IMRT dosimetry phantom, LA48, set of RW3 Slab Phantoms, ESTRO mini-Phantom, laser alignment phantom) are used in order to measure dosimetry and quality control of the radiation beams.
