Freiburg. On September 11, 2009, Ndimofor Chofor, research assistant in the medical radiation physics team headed by Professor Björn Poppe at Oldenburg University, was honored with the PTW Dosimetry Award 2009 of the German Society of Medical Physics (DGMP). The award was officially presented at the annual meeting of the DGMP, held during the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Munich this year.
Mr Chofor received the award for his exemplary paper titled "Mapping radiation quality inside photon-irradiated absorbers by means of a twin-chamber method". In his award-winning paper, Mr Chofor investigates the impact of low-energy scattered radiation on dose assessment during photon radiation. He introduces a new simple experimental method to analyze radiation fields which allows an assessment of low-energy scattered radiation.
Mr Chofor came to Oldenburg University in 2001 to study for a bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics, then enrolled in a two-year master's program to deepen his knowledge. After completing his studies in 2006, Mr Chofor joined the medical radiation physics team at Oldenburg University and Pius Hospital as a research assistant and radiation protection commissoner. He is currently working towards his
Ph. D. under the direction of Prof. Björn Poppe in close cooperation with Pius Hospital Oldenburg.
We congratulate Mr Chofor on this well deserved recognition of his scientific achievements.

About the Award
The Dosimetry Award which is sponsored by PTW and includes a prize of EUR 1,500 was first launched in 2008. It is given annually by the German Society of Medical Physics (DGMP) and officially presented at its annual meeting. The award was established to recognize a young scientist up to 35 years of age for an outstanding scientific research paper on dosimetry of ionizing radiation in medicine. Mr Chofor is the second recipient of this award.
