1959 - DIAMENTOR

It all started as an educational measure. Hence the name: The MENTOR, the notorious wise man of the odyssey for DIAgnostic radiology. The instrument was intended to show young radiologists in teaching hospitals the radiation load to the patient resulting from their examinations. For this purpose a novel measuring quantity was defined: The Dose Area Product had the advantages of indicating both the dose and the area concerned and being independent from patient distance thereby enabling measurement with an ionization chamber fixed to the collimator.

1962 - DIAMENTOR Type 573

State of the art display tubes (the famous NIXIE tubes) were the characteristic feature of this instrument.
No picture has been preserved. The first reader to send a picture of type 573 to PTW will be rewarded with a PTW souvenir.

1974 - DIAMENTOR D

This robust and compact device featured an LED display and the possibility to connect two chambers for biplane X-ray installations. The most popular DIAMENTOR up to then. Instruments of this type still occasionally show up for maintenance or recalibration more than thirty years later.

1978 - DIAMENTOR M3

The first M series instruments were plain utility boxes without internal display. Up to three chambers can be connected to this instrument featuring a sophisticated 'plug and measure' logical matrix enabling the user to determine which signal is shown on which display.

1984 - DIAPRINT M

With the rising popularity of DIAMENTOR measurements documentation of the results has become an issue. Alternatively to a display unit this printer device can be connected to instruments of the early M series.

1988 - DIAMENTOR M2

LCD display and built-in printer made the M2 the favourite instrument of the early 90's. The DIAMENTOR M2 was the first DAP meter sold internationally in large numbers. A resolution of 0.1 µGym² now became standard.

1993 - DIAMENTOR E

A solid but small and cost-efficient instrument. An easy solution for retrofitting and still fully in compliance with IEC 60580 the DIAMENTOR E and its successor, the DIAMENTOR E2, can be found in X-ray departments all over the world.



1994 - DIAMENTOR M4

PTW-Freiburg's most versatile DAP meter with the capability for two chambers and two external displays, printer and PC connection. Modern design and large display ensure reliability and ease of use. The first DAP Meter with a resolution of 0.01 µGym² is now available.


1998 - DIAMENTOR M4 KDK

Simultaneously measuring both the DAP and the patient entrance dose was a demand resulting especially from interventional radiology applications. After a first tentative solution with the DIAMENTOR M2 KDK in the early 90's the M4 KDK finally established the principle of the combined double chamber.


2001 - DIAMENTOR CX

The quest for the most compact DIAMENTOR resulted in this sleek solution combining a standard ionization chamber and a bright display in one small easy to fit instrument. Of course also fully compliant with IEC 60580 and the medical device standards.

2005 - DIAMENTOR C2

The modern replacement for the most popular type M2 combines the advantages of built-in printer, serial interface, 2 chamber capability and state of the art display in an attractive compact case. High resolution and high reliability are features shared with all DIAMENTOR devices now available.

Remark

The instruments shown above are just a selection of representative samples of the DIAMENTOR line through the past five decades. Many more types - especially built-in variations - have been produced and are still available. A solution for every problem.
