PTW-Freiburg is established as one of the first dosimetry companies in the world, after W.C. Röntgen had discovered the X-rays, producing the revolutionary Hammer dosemeter to solve the problem of quantifying the radiation load given to patients.

1929

Introduction of the first commercial water phantoms and waterproof chambers by PTW. Although the ionization chamber had to be moved from point to point manually such a quality-built phantom meant a considerable improvement for the first hospital physicists.

DIAMENTOR, the first diagnostic patient dosemeter for dose area product (DAP) measurements is introduced, enabling the X-ray operator to supervise the exposure during X-ray examinations for radiation protection of patients, today a must in X-ray diagnostics.

1976

Introduction of the world famous and wide spread MARKUS electron chamber with very thin entrance window and small volume for precison dosimetry of high-energy electron beams in radiotherapy.

1992

Another innovation in diagnostic patient dosimetry: The first DIAMENTOR-KDK system with combined ionization chamber for simultaneous patient radiation protection measurement of DAP and dose during X-ray examinations according to international protocols is introduced.

1996

The Linear Chamber Array LA48 is introduced, the first and still unique detector array, based on liquid ionization chambers and used for comfortable and fast analyses of dynamic therapy fields.

1997

The first extremely small-volume PINPOINT ionization chamber for IMRT and stereotactic beam dosimetry and verification is introduced, overcoming the drawbacks of diode detectors.

VeriSoft, the first and most comprehensive software package for comfortable IMRT beam verification, combinable with all relevant therapy planning systems, is introduced.

2002

DIAVOLT, the first non-invasive kV measuring device for the measurement of ppv (practical peak voltage), the new and very practical kV parameter for quality control of X-ray units, is introduced.

From single point measurement to planar dosimetry: The revolutionary planar ionization chamber matrix 2D-ARRAY for two-dimensional, real-time and high precision IMRT dosimetry is introduced.
